HARBISON, PORTER,
POTTS -
Ezekial POTTS m. 12 Aug. 1780 Bedford Co., VA to Eleanor HARBISON, d/o James
HARBISON and Rachel PORTER. In 1780 James HARBISON was in what became KY and
it was thought that he'd moved his family there from Botetourt Co., VA. Had James shuttled his
family back to less dangerous territory? I'm interested in corresponding with anyone who knows of
this family.

GASH, GILBERT,
HELM, PRESTON -
I have been researching the GILBERT family in Baltimore and later Harford County, MD for
some time and have accumulated a lot of information. Several members of the family moved to
Bedford Co., VA. However, I haven't been able to verify much about the early years of my many
times gr-grandmother, Nancy Ann Gilbert (or Ann). Several sources say that Nancy Ann or
Ann's parents were Garvis/Jarvis Gilbert and Elizabeth PRESTON Gilbert. She
must have been born not more than a year before her father died in about 1754. She was born about
1753/54. Garvis must have died about 1754. His estate was finally settled in 1756. Elizabeth
married (2) Michael GASH on 11Aug 1754. Then by 1763 they were in Bedford Co. when Michael
Gash's son Thomas married an Elizabeth Gilbert. Garvis and Elizabeth had a daughter
named Elizabeth but I'm not sure if she is the one who married Thomas Gash or not. They
were not in any way related but they would have been raised together.
I just recently found
the information about Elizabeth marrying Michael GASH. I had often wondered how Nancy Ann
got from MD to VA and this explains it - her mother and step-father brought her. Nancy Ann
Gilbert then married Thomas HELM on 31 Jan 1774. All the records I have seen say
they were married in Bedford Co. VA but I have never been able to find a marriage record for
them. Does anyone have any further information about Michael Gash, or about the
Gash family who moved to Bedford Co. VA? Perhaps there might be something in the records
about the GASH family that would pertain to my ancestor.

BROWN, LOYD,
SCOTT, THOMAS -
Am searching for the parentage of John C. Thomas b.abt 1802 in Bedford County. He married
Elizabeth (Betsey) Loyd b.1822, daughter of Levi W. Loyd b.abt 1790. According to
the 1850 & 1860 Bedford County census they lived in the "Southern District". What area would this
have encompassed? John C. Thomas died in Mongomery County, VA in 1859 at which time
Elizabeth took the five youngest children, Emma C., Mary S., Martha S. & Melissa and John C. to
Sullivan County, TN. John C. married Celia Scott from Johnson Co., TN. Martha S. m/William
Hammer Brown, Jr. and remained in Sullivan County. (1870 Sullivan Co. census lists Melissa
as "Miletta") John C. had one child before he died soon after marrying Celia Scott. Mary
and Melissa were out of the home by 1880 & I have no information regarding where they might be.
Emma was still living with her mother in 1880
Would appreciate any help with this family -
especially the parentage of John C. Thomas b.1802.

ABSTON, CITTY, COX, MILLER -
I am researching Susannah ABSTON, daughter of Joshua, who married Jacob MILLER 21
August 1800 in Bedford Co. Jacob Miller was born in Woodstock, Shenandoah Co. VA. I also believe
that 1776 is probably his birth year Does anyone else have this couple? Thank you. Their son
Joshua Abston Miller stated he was born in Shenandoah Co. 1805. It seems the family moved
to Bedford => Pittsylvania => Campbell Counties VA not long afterwards though I have no proof
where the other children were born - Jacob Jr., Rachel who married Christopher Citty,
Elisabeth who died as a child and Polly. Jacob married 2nd Elisabeth Cox 1811 in Campbell
Co. VA. and they were still there in 1829.
