I am new to geneaology, and am trying to locate information about the Carters that lived in Bedford County around 1800. Before knowing any of this, my husband and I had purchased land on Carter's Mill Road in Bedford County (south of Huddleston, Rt 630). Can you please direct me, or give me some suggestions as to how I can find out if Carter's Mill Road (Rt. 630) is named for the Carters that lived in Bedford County? Or, the history of the name of the road? I appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you,

I am researching William Henry Lipscomb who supposedly ran a mill in Evington area, Bedford County in the 1800s. One of his five sons, James Washington Lipscomb, married Janette Gertrude Noel in Amherst County 1892. Have little additional info on William, though, and how he got to Bedford County. Also researching Malankton Davis Dowdy married Frances Elizabeth Ashwell in Bedford County on June 18, 1856. I descend from the Dowdy and Newman lines, my husband from the Lipscomb and Hackworth lines, as well as Layne and Lawhorne lines. Dowdy, Laynes and Lipscombs buried in Bedford County. Looking for others researching same lines.

Looking for information on an ARTHUR family in Bedford Co, Va. I have a Jeremiah ARTHUR (b) abt 1812 Bedford Co, Va. He mar'd Jul. 26, 1838 Fayette Co,WV to Mary ARTHUR. In most all census of Kanawha Co, WV 1850-1870 there is a John and Elizabeth (??) ARTHUR lives within a few houses of Jeremiah (aka- Jerry). Could they be the parents of Jeremiah or his wife Mary as she was also an Arthur. Would like to know information on the birth of Jeremiah, his parents and siblings. Would greatly appreciate any help, information and/or leads to this information. Thank You.
