I am trying to track my father's family which lived in either Fancy Gap, Hillville or Wyettsville. Our last name is Allen and we are related to the Allens that had the shoot out in the Fancy Gap courthouse (and were consequently hung for it). I know that during the War Between the States, my great great (or could be 1 more great!) left the area to go to Ohio to fight for the North and tried to come home again afterwards with his wife and family and was turned away. I would like to see if I can find out what regiments were assigned to these areas. Family rumor was that brothers did meet on the battle field so we are trying to verify this information. I am totally clueless as to whether our family members were cavalry, foot soldiers, etc. I just wanted to get pointed in the right direction! Sorry so longwinded and rambling!! I have been searching for a cemetery where a lot of my McGee are, My gg grandfather is there along with a lot of others. The name is Pickett cemetery, some place near Austineville, Poplar Camp area. It is near The McGee home place. Alfred McGee, Walter McGee etc. if you can give me information or directions it would be most helpful. Thanks in advance
