AIROLA, IROLER -
My wife, Mary Largen, and I are researching Emanuel IROLER (ca.1831 - 1917). We have learned that his original surname was AIROLA (pronounced "eye-rolla" in Italian), and we believe that he was born in S. Maurizio di Monti, near Rapallo. We were there in June 2001. We'd like to correspond with anyone else who is working on his line. Bill Fox, Williamsburg, VA

BOBBITT, CARROLL, COCK -
Looking for the parents of Margaret "Peggy" Carroll born Dec 1821 in VA. She died Aug 1903 and was buried in Bobbitt Cemetery (William R. Bobbitt), Hillsville, Carroll County, VA. Margaret married William R. Bobbitt, son of James Bobbitt and Rosanna Bobbitt, in 1845. William was born 27 Oct 1810 in Grayson County, VA. He died 1 Jul 1889 in Carroll County, VA and was buried in Bobbitt Cemetery (William R. Bobbitt), Hillsville, Carroll County, VA. They had the following children: James P. S. born 7 Oct 1850 in Carroll County, VA, Mary Ann born 1847, John C. born 1848, William L. born 1856, Sarah E. born 1859, and Ambersetta born 1861. Margaret had a sister named Mary Ann who was married to John Cock, Jr on 15 Feb 1844 in Carroll County. They had an uncle named John Carroll, of Irish descent, who was a merchant, farmer and repressentative in the legislature. On the marriage bond for Margaret and William R. Bobbitt, the word "Parents" is scratched out after Margaret's name and in its place is written "Orphaned". Records held by the Genealogy Club of Carroll County, VA show that Margaret had an uncle named John Carroll and an aunt named Margaret Carroll. Both aunt and uncle were Irish immigrants. From 1850 Census: Annotated Carroll County, Virginia by John P. Alderman John (Carroll, Margaret's Uncle) was an Irishman who came here (Carroll County) from Lynchburg in the 1830's and bought a large farm on Big Reed. He later moved his holdings to Fairview, east of Hillsville. He was a slaveholder, one of the wealthier men in the county. He ran for the legislature in 1841 and defeated John Blair in a bitter contest. He was responsible for the legislation dividing old Grayson and creating a new Carroll County in 1842. He died in 1860 and by his will freed his slaves. His wife (other sources say he never married and this was his sister) had predeceased him; they had no children, only nieces and nephews. I would very much like to know who Peggy's parents were. My family data may be viewed at http://www.SpidleFamily.com Best regards,

BRANSCOME, DALTON, FLEMING, JENNINGS -
Looking for the parents of Caldonia S. "Callie" Fleming born 3 Jun 1873 in Carroll County, VA. She died 9 Aug 1913 in Carroll County, VA and was buried 9 Aug 1913 in Branscome Cemetery, Dugspur, VA. Caldonia married Garland Dalton, son of Elias Dalton and Ann Branscome, on 1892 in Surry County, NC. Garland was born 11 Feb 1873 in Carroll County, VA. He died 6 Feb 1964 in Carroll County, VA and was buried 6 Feb 1964 in Branscome Cemetery, Dugspur, VA. They had the following children all born in Carroll County, VA: James Roscoe born 23 Feb 1893, Robert born 14 Mar 1895, Thursa born 25 Nov 1896, Orville W. Ovel born 4 Oct 1898, Isaac Monroe born 11 Feb 1901, Ethel Mary born 18 May 1903, William Everett born 18 Feb 1906, Edgar F. born 6 Jan 1908, Joseoph B. born 6 May 1910, and Allie Mae born 14 Mar 1912. I believe Callie's parents were William Fleming and Susan Jennings. Susan is sometimes listed as Susan Dalton because she was the widow of a Dalton. There is a birth registered in Carroll County, VA for a Caldonia Fleming with parents of William Fleming and Susan but the birth date is not recorded. I would very much like to know for sure who Callie's parents were. My family data may be viewed at http://www.SpidleFamily.com Best regards,

EADES, EADS, EDDES, EDDS, EDDY, EDES, FELTS -
I am searching Carroll County, VA records looking for information (marriage records, birth and death records) on James A. and Rebecca Eads (numerous spellings of that last name: Eades, Edes, Edds, Eddes, Eddy) They were in the Elk Creek area of Grayson County, VA in 1860, but I think she was from Carroll County, VA. Her maiden name was Rebecca Felts. They had a daughter in 1859 (Lucy Lodena) and it is thought that Rebecca died in childbirth in about April 1861 when second daughter (Letha Louisa) was born. If you can help with any of this regarding Rebecca Felts Eads, please contact me. Thanks a bunch, Phil
