Abel DAVIS and Upton CANADA were brothers and slaves on a plantation called
Ridgeway owned by Ms. Adaile CARRINGTON. After being freed: Abel was a

Kristin Nash (email@example.com) 7 Jan 1998
NASH: I am looking for information on my
4G-grandfather Thomas NASH. According to family legend, he arrived in
Va. from Eng. in 1774. Fought in the revolution (private, wounded) and
settled in Charlotte Co. He married Sarah COLE (a widow, we think, her
maiden name could have been Sarah DANIEL) and had 6 sons (Thomas Jr,
James, Robert D, William D, Abner, Presley). James & Robert were each
married in Charlotte Co. and I have their bonds. I also have James'
will. Thomas Jr. left no will but there is a deed where his brothers
split up his land and sold it to the heirs of William WALKER. The other
3 brothers all married GAULDINGS in Prince Edward Co. and moved there. A
previous family genealogist recorded that all 6 sons were born in
Charlotte Co. yet I have found no birth records indicating that. Even
though I have found numerous paper trails to all the sons, I have found
nothing at all that this Thomas NASH even existed, was the father of
these 6 sons or even lived in Charlotte Co. The closest I have come to
anything on him were revolution muster & pay rolls for a private from
Va. named Thomas NASH. Then there is a Thomas NASH in the Amelia Co.
census of 1790 (actually a 1785 tax list) listin him as head of a
household of 7. According to family legend, Thomas settled in Amelia
before moving to Charlotte. However, those dates put him in Amelia Co.
when his children were born. I do, however, think Thomas was related to
the John NASH family of Prince Edward Co. (via lines back in Eng.) and I
also believe Thomas NASH of Charlotte Co. may have been the brother of
Traverse NASH of Fauquier Co. (who also fought in the revolution and has
no records in Va. prior to that). Everyone else just as confused as me
