Rutledge Deeds - Charlotte Co., VA




Please note that I have tried to copy these Indentures from copies.  I may have
misinterpreted some of the words.  The (----) represents words I was unable to
interpret.  Both of the following were found in Charlotte County Clerk’s office.

DEED BOOK 6, PAGE 239:  Rutledge from Blanton   (Plot of this tract)

This Indenture made the first day of April in the Seventeenth year of our
Independence and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and
ninety three.  Between Richard Blanton and Nilly his wife of the County of
Prince Edward of the one part and Lucrecy Rutlidge, Richard Rutledge, John
Rutlidge, David Rutledge, William Rutlidge and Sarah Rutlidge of Charlotte
County of the other part.  With---- that the said Richard Blanton and Nilly  his
wife for and in consideration of the (sum) Fifty pounds to in hand paid by the
said aforementioned Lucreacy Rutlidge, Richard Rutlidge, John Rutlidge, David
Rutlidge, William Rutledge, and Sarah Rutlidge before the sealing and delivery
of these presents, the Receipt whereof the said Richard Blanton doth hereby
acknowledge, and of every part thereof doth hereby forever acquit and discharge
the said Lucreacy, Richd, John, David, William and Sarah Rutlidge, their heirs,
(Executors) and administrators, have granted, bargained, and sold, alien,
transfer’d conveyed and confirmed and by these presents the said Richard Blanton
and Nelly his wife do for themselves, their heirs, Executors fully and
absolutely grant bargain and sell, alien, Transfer, Convey and Confirm unto the
said Lucretia, Richard, John, David, William and Sarah Rutlidge’s their heirs,
(-----). Admins  forever, one certain Tract or parcel of land situated and lying
in the aforesaid County of Charlotte and Surveyed by W. Josiah Jackson the 12th
of November 1790.  The said Tract containing to one hundred acres and bounded as
followeth.  Beginning  cross Cock's [corrected]road at a (fa-----) corner Tree to a new line.
172 E76 pole to a pine on Gills line. Thence n. 2 w. 159 poles in the said Gills
line to a (fa------) corner, thence along a new line N. 88. W. 148 poles to
another (fa------)- Corner in Perkinson’s line, thence along Perkinsons line 128
½ E 161. Poles to the beginning, Together with all houses, buildings, gardens,
orchards, Trees, Timbers, fences inclosures, woods, underwoods,  swamps,
marshes, meadows, grounds, ways, waters courses, profits, commodities,
emoluments, hereditaments, and (------------), whatsoever to the said hereby;
granted, parsal or Tract of land belonging or in any wise appurtaining, with all
the rights, Titles, Interest, Claims, and Demands, whatsoever of them the said
Richard Blanton and Nelly his wife of in and to the same and every part thereof.
To have and to hold the said hereby Tract or parcal of land and premises with
all and singular the rights, members, and appurtenances, thereunto belonging as
in any wise appurtaining and every part and parcel thereof unto the said
Lucretia Rutlidge, Richard Rutlidge, John Rutlidge, David Rutlidge, Wm.
Rutlidge, and Sarah Rutlidge to them and their heirs forever, to them and their
only proper use and (--------) to none other use, Intent or purpose whatsoever,
and the said Richard Blanton doth for himself his heirs, Executors and Adm.
Shall and will forever warrant and defend the right, Title,Claim or Claims of
the sd. Land unto the said Lucretia, Richard, John, David, William, and Sarah
Rutlidge’s to them and their heirs and (-------) and any of them, may quietly
and peaceably have, hold, occupy, (---------) and enjoy the said granted parcel
of Land and premises, In Witne(--) whereof  we have hereunto set each of our
hand and affixed our seals the day and year first above written.
    Memo. The words between the 2nd and third lines were en(--------) before
signed.

Received the day of the date of the within Indenture of this written Lucreatia
Rutlidge, Richard Rutlidge, John Rutlidge, David Rutlidge, William Rutlidge and
Sarah Rutlidge the sum of Fifty pounds current money in full satisfaction for
the within mentioned granted parcel of land and premises.

Witness present
At a court held for Charlotte County the 1st day of April 1793.This Indenture
was acknowledged in court by the said Richard Blanton to be his act and Deed and
ordered to be Recorded.

DEED BOOK 19, PAGE 110:  REDD FROM RUTLEDGE:

This Indenture made and entered unto this 10th day of December in the year of
our Lord one thousand, eight hundred and Twenty nine between Richard Rutledge,
David Rutledge, Cresey Rutledge and Sally Rutledge and Cintha Rutledge.
Rutledge of the County of Charlotte of the one part and Henry T. Redd of the
same County of the other part.  Witneforth that the said Richd. Rutledge, David
Rutledge, Cresey Rutledge and Sally Rutledge and Cynthe Rutledge for and in
consideration of the sum of one hundred and ninety four dollars current money of
Va. To them in hand paid by the said Henry T Redd the (acct)  whereof they the
said Richd., David, Cresey, and Sally and Cintha Rutledge doth hereby
acknowledged hath given the said Henry T Redd his heirs, (E----), admi, and (---
--) forever one certain Tract or parcel of land lying in the Cty of Charlotte on
the west side of Randolphs Road adjoining the land of the said (Hy.) T Redd the
said Rutledge and the lands of John Booth containing forty one and ¾ acres with
all and singular the privileges and (----------) thereunto belonging or any wise
(app---------).  To have and to hold the bargained premises with all the
___,_____,____ (apparten----) to hem the said ____ ___ ___ ___ Hy. T Redd his
heirs (E---), and adms. Or (----) forever.  To have and to hold occupy and (----
---) and enjoy the same with every part and parcel therof to him the said Henry
T Redd his heirs, (---) adm. or (a-----) and to all the reversion and remainder
rights estate interest (---)  whatsoever of them the said Richd. David Cresey
and Sally and Cintha Rutledge for themselves their heirs (E---), adm. or (a---)
the bargained premises with their (app-----) unto the said Hy T Redd his heirs
(e---) adm. or (a---) and against the claim of any other person or persons
whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents.  In
(witne---) whereof the said Richd Rutledge David Rutledge Cresey Rutledge and
Sally Rutledge and Cintha Rutledge hath set their hands and (affirmed) their
seals the year above written.

        We Edwin Price and Hillery Moseley Jr.  Justices of the peace in the
Cty aforesd. Do hereby certify that Rich Rutledge David Rutledge Cresey Rutledge
Sally Rutledge Cintha  Rutledge and parties to a certain deed bearing date on
the 10th day of Dec. 1829 and hereto (a------) personally appeared before us in
our Cty and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and desired us to
certify the sd acknowledgement to the Clk the Cty Ct. of Charlotte in order the
sd. Deed may be recorded.  Given under our hand and seals the 18 Jany 1830.

        We Edwin Price and Hillery Moseley, jr.  Justices of the peace for
the Cty aforesaid do hereby certify that Cintha Rutledge the wife of David
Rutledge a party to a certain deed bearing date on the 10th Dec. 1829 and hereto
(a-----) personally appeared before us privily and apart from her husband had
having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Cintha Rutledge
acknowledged the same to be her act deed and declared she had willingly signed
sealed. And des. The same and that she wished not to retract it.  Given under
our hands and seals this 18th day of Jany 1830.

1793 DEED BOOK 6, PAGE 239:  Rutledge from Blanton

The above deed would not map with the metes: 128.5E and 172E.
With the "1" in the degrees changed to "S" for south, the
deed mapped satisfactorily as 100 acres.— JoLee Spears 1-17-00
 RUTLEDGE TO RUTLEDGE

Deed Book 30, Pg. 223 This deed made the 31 of December in the year 1857 between Richard Rutledge and John H Rutledge witnepeth (? Spelling): the said Richard Rutledge that in consideration of one hundred and forty dollars all his undivided interest in 58 ½ acres land lying and being in the County of Charlotte Va at his Richard Rutledge’s death reserving the place he lives on during hislife, this land adjoining the lands of Hillery A Booth, Esta of John C. Booth and others, the said Richard Rutledge doth release the said John H Rutledge at his death all his claims when said land forever. his Richard X Rutledge mark Witness Jas. M. McCargo P. G. Eubank (unsure of initials) In Charlotte County Court Clerk’s Office January 4, 1858. The foregoing writing was this day proved by the oaths of James M. McCargo and P. G. Eubank the two subscribing witnepes thereto as to Richard Rutledge whose name is signed thereto and admitted to record. Teste. Winslow Robinson ================================================== RUTLIDGE TO DISTRICT No. 2 BACON TOWNSHIP Deed Book 35, Pg. 218 This deed, made this 245h day of May in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-six between Ann H Rutlidge (who was Ann H Gryle ____ of the first part and School District No 2 in Bacon Township of the second part. Witnepeth, that in consideration of the sum of twenty six 25/100 dollars, the said Ann H. Rutlidge doth grant unto the said School District No. 2 in Bacon Township with General Warrenty, all that parcel or lot of land on the Wylliesburg and Moseley’s Ferry Road used for a public School, embraced in field notes as follows; Beginning at a large Post Oak on the Moseley Ferry road marked A. a new line on S. G. Masons. N.7. W.16 ¼ poles to B. to Hickory corner on back line of Masons, thence along the latter on Boothes line 5.56. W. 13 ½ poles to Hickory old corner of Mason, Gryle, and Boothe, thence a new line through the latter land 5.52 ½ W. 26 ½ poles to road to pine pointers, thence along through Mosley Ferry road N.70 E. 17 ½ poles. N.84 E. 14 ½ poles, N. 85 E.33 ¼ poles to the beginning, containing 7/8th of an acre of said Rutlidge land. The balance of the land within said boundaries viz 3/4th of an acre being bought by said School District of S. G. Mason. The said Ann H. Rutlidge covenants that she has the right to convey the said land to the grantee, that she has done no act to incumber the said land, that the grantee shall have quiet possession of the said land, free from all incumbrances, and that she the party of the first part will execute such further assurance of the said land as may be requisite. Witness the following signature and seal Ann H. Rutledge State of Virginia, County of Charlotte to wit. I, J. E. Booker Notary Public for the County aforesaid, in the state of Virginia, do certify that Ann H. Rutledge whose name is signed to the within writing bearing date on the 24th day of May 1876, has acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid. In Charlotte County Court Clerks office May 6th 1878 the foregoing writing together with the certificate of its acknowledgement annexed as to Ann H.
