This Indenture made the 25 day of July in the year of our lord One thousand Seven hundred and Ninety Six Between Thos. Wade & Phebe his wife Buckner Harwell & David Wade of Brunswick County of the one part & Hartwell Tucker of the said County of the other part Witnesseth that the said Thomas Wade Pheba his wife Buckner Harwell & David Wade for and in Consideration of Two hundred & Eighty five pounds of lawful Money of this Commonwealth to them in hand paid by the sd Hartwell Tucker . . . do bargain and sell unto the sd. Hartwell Tucker . . . a Certain Tract or parcel of land lying & being in the County aforesd. containing by estimation four hundred & seventy three acres be the same more or less & bounded as followeth (Vizt) by the lands of Thomas Simmons Inft. Nathaniel King Senr. David Tucker Senr. the said Hartwell Tucker Matthew Harris decd & Thos. & Washington Crofts . . . Signed by Thomas Wade, Phebe Wade (by her mark), Buckner Harwell and David Wade, and witnessed by James Smith, William Short and William Gholson.

Brunswick County Court July 27th 1797. This Indenture of Bargain & Sale was acknowledged by Thomas Wade and Phebe his wife Buckner Harwell & David Wade parties thereto to be their act & deed & ordered to be recorded previous to which acknowledgment the said Pheba being first privily Examined as the law directs did Voluntarily assent thereto.

Brunswick County Court April 24th 1797. This Indenture of Bargain and Sale was acknowledged by David Wade party thereto to be his act & Deed & Ordered to be recorded.
