Know all men by these presents that I Washington Croft of the County of Brunswick have upon this 2d day of March in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred & ninety Seven in consideration of Thirty two pounds ten shillings current money of Virginia to me in hand paid . . . do hereby sell bargain alien convey transfer give up make over relinquish & absolutely confirm to the said Sterling Tucker all my right title interest and claim of & to a certain Negroe Slave named Sall to one moiety or equal half part of whom, the said Tucker is already (and heretofore) entitled and has a right; the other moiety or equal half of the said Sal having been conveyed sold & aliened to me the said Washington Croft by the said Sterling Tucker to take affect in possession after the death of Thomas Croft father of the said Washington Croft by Bill of Sale which said Negro Sall was sold & conveyed by the said Thomas Croft to the said Sterling Tucker by another bill of sale which is also in like manner recorded in the said Court & which negro Sall was delivered by the said Thomas Croft to the said Sterling Tucker and is now in the possession of the said Sterling Tucker To Have & To Hold possess & enjoy my one half or Equal moiety of the said Negro Sall & her increase and all my right title interest claim and demand whatsoever of or to the negroe Sall & her increase either as derived from the said Sterling Tucker by Virtue of his former Bill of Sale to me or by Virtue of my being Administrator on the Estate of the said Thomas Croft deceased or by Virtue of his being his only Son & Legal representative on in Virtue & by consequence of any other right derived from my said father Thomas Croft or from any other Source or Sources person or persons whatsoever . . . Brunswick County Court October 23rd 1797. This Bill of Sale was acknowledged by Washington Croft party thereto to be his act and deed and ordered to be recorded.
