This Indenture made and entered into this ninth day of August One thousand eight hundred and thirty seven between Martin Tucker and Rebecca his wife of the one part, and Peter Talbott of the other, all of the County of Powhatan Witnesseth that the said Martin Tucker and Rebecca his wife for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars to them in hand paid by the said Peter Talbott the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents by the said Martin Tucker and Rebecca his wife, have granted bargained sold and relinquished and by these present doth grant, bargain, sell and relinquish unto Peter Talbott his heirs and assigns forever their whole and entire interest and title to one half of a certain tract of land lying in said County purchased of Hughes Woodson by the said Peter Talbott and Martin Tucker which is of record in the Clerk's Office of this County, containing eighty two acres, the same being more or less and bounded as follows On the North by the lands of Alexander S. Owens, East by the Buckingham road, South by the lands of Mrs. Woodson, West by the lands of Larkin Self. To have and to hold the said land with its appurtenances to him the said Peter Talbott his heirs and assigns forever And the said Martin Tucker and Rebecca his wife further covenant and agree to warrant and defend forever the title and interest to the above named premises to him the said Peter Talbott against all claims or persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our Seals the day and year above written. Signed by Martin Tucker and Rebecca Tucker (by her mark). Powhatan County to wit, We. F. S. Smith and B. L. Meade Justices of the peace in the County aforesaid do hereby certify that Martin Tucker a party to the foregoing deed bearing date the 9: day of August 1837 personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the said deed or conveyance to be his act and deed and desired us to certify his said acknowledgment to the Clerk of the County of Powhatan in order that the said deed may be recorded. Meade Justices of the peace in the County aforesaid do hereby certify that Rebecca Tucker wife of Martin Tucker party to the foregoing deed of conveyance bearing date the 9: day of August 1837 being privily and apart from her husband was examined by us and having the said deed fully explained to her, she acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared that she had willingly signed and sealed the same and that she had no wish to retract it. The foregoing Indenture of bargain and sale which has been duly acknowledged by Martin Tucker and Rebecca his wife parties to the same to be their act and deed before two Magistrates of this County and certified, was this day received in the said Office and together with the Certificates of the acknowledgment aforesaid and of the privy examination of the said Rebecca Tucker admitted to record.
