Patrick and Polly S. Booth were received into the old
Meherrin Baptist Church (1771-1844) and baptized by Rev. Silas
Shelborne in November 1831. In July 1834, Patrick Booth was
appointed to the office of Clerk, Pro Tem when Roderick R.
Gregory resigned the office. In January 1837 "Brother Booth,
Brother Ro. Saunders Sr. & Bro. Ro. Saunders Jr." requested
letters of dismission from the church, joining the numerous
dissenters. [Meherrin Church Minutes]
By 1850, Patrick Booth and family were living in Charlotte
County, where he died in 1853. In the household 1850 census
were children Milton to the youngest, all born Mecklenburg.
Robert W. Booth, 25, born Halifax (an error?), was a clerk
with Hillery M. L. Goode, merchant.
The will of Patrick Booth is recorded in Charlotte County.
A tombstone marks his grave on early Saunders property, near
Elmwood, in Lunenburg.
