All of the children listed below were of mixed race and were all listed as free Negro and mulattos on subsequent census reports and on some other documents. Elizabeth Naish (she is listed here as #w5) never married – to my knowledge. She was the daughter of William and Sarah Naish. __ Generation 2 2. Elizabeth Naish (w5), (WILLIAM1) was born abt. 1764 in Mecklenburg Co., Virginia, d. after 1840. She is found living next to John Naish in 1830. Also, she was living with her son Bannister Naish in 1840 (census p.15) in Mecklenburg, Co. VA. .Children of Elizabeth NAISH and Unknown: 3. i. JOHN NAISH (w5-1), b. 1794.
Generation 3 3. JOHN NAISH (w5-1), (ELIZABETH2, WILLIAM1) b. 1794.- Paul Heinegg's book Free African American's of North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina gives this information on him “described as a free Mulatto abt. 32 years old, 5ft. 6in, born of a free woman in the county (Mecklenburg)” In 1830 the county census (p. 48) shows John Nash living to one side of Elizabeth Nash (Naish). John married Olive Ivey on 18 December 1823 in Mecklenburg Co., minister was William Richards. 3. IRBEY NAISH (w5-2), (ELIZABETH2, WILLIAM1) was born in 1796 in Mecklenburg Co., Virginia, died after 1860. He married Ann Elizabeth Dunston 15 Nov. 1830 in Mecklenburg, VA. She was born 1809-10 and died between 1854 and 1856. Irbey moved to Pike Co. Ohio, per 1860 census.Children of Irbey NAISH and Ann Elizabeth Dunston: 4. i. ELIZABETH ANN NAISH (w5-31), b. 1831 / m. James F. Chavous.
3. BANNISTER NAISH (w5-3), (ELIZABETH2, WILLIAM1) was born in 1798 in Mecklenburg Co., VA. died after 1856. He married Temperance (Tempy) Dunston 10 March 1835 in Mecklenburg, VA. Children of Bannister NAISH and Temperance Dunston are: 4. i. MINERVA CAROLINE NAISH (w5-14), b. 1836. 3. LUVENIA NAISH (w5-6) (ELIZABETH2, WILLIAM1) b. abt. 1806. Marr. John Chavous 24 Feb. 1829 in Mecklenburg Co. VA. Her date of death is unknown. ___ Generation 4 and 5 4. (w5-31) ELIZABETH ANN NAISH (IRBEY3, ELIZABETH2, WILLIAM1) , b. 1831 in Mecklenburg VA/m. James F. Chavous in Mecklenburg Co. VA. They lived in Pike Co. Ohio in 1870 –had 2 children. Children of Elizabeth Ann Naish and James F. Chavous - per 1870 census- Ohio: 5. i. James W. Chavous, (w5-38), b. 1856 in Virginia, d. after 1860. ii. Virginia Ann Chavous, (w5-39), b. 1858 in Ohio, d. after 1860. 4. (w5-7) GEORGE ADMIRAL NAISH (IRBEY3, ELIZABETH2, WILLIAM1) , b. 1832 in Mecklenburg VA., d. aft. 1880, marr. Rebecca F. in Ohio about 1870. Children of GEORGE ADMIRAL NASH and Rebecca F.: 5. i. IDA E. NASH, (w5-19 ) b. 1873 in Ohio. ii. CORDA I. NASH, (w5-20)b. 1875 in Ohio. iii. RICHARD S. P. NASH, (w5-21) b. 1879 in Ohio. 4. (w5-11) JOHN IRBEY NASH (IRBEY3, ELIZABETH2, WILLIAM1) b. 1840 in Mecklenburg; marr. Mary J. She was born in VA.. He died after 1880. The 1880 Pike Co. Ohio census shows this man listed 1 page away from his brother George A. Nash (w5-7). Children of John Irbey Nash and Mary J.:5. i. RICHARD C. NASH (w5 -22), b. 1872 in Ohio.
4. (w5-15)EDWARD HENDERSON NAISH (BANNISTER3, ELIZABETH2, WILLIAM1) b. 1837, m. Charity A., Both died after 1880 (in Ohio?). 1870 census he is shown to have real estate value of $350, Also personal prop. of $200/ Ross Co. In 1880 he is listed as an Omnibus driver in Ross Co. Ohio. Children of Edward Henderson Nash and Charity A.: 5. i. LEWIS NASH (w5-26), b. 1864 in Ohio.
4. (w5-17) RICHARD BANNISTER NAISH (BANNISTER3, ELIZABETH2, WILLIAM1) b. 1840; m. Florence, in Ohio. She was born: 1857, Ohio. He died after 1910 in Ohio. He was a janitor in a church in 1910 -Scioto, Ohio. Children of Richard Bannister Naish and Florence: According to 1910 census data this couple had had a total of 9 children. Only 2 were still living in 1910. 5. i. NORA NASH (w5-29), b. 1892 in Ohio.
