This general store, destroyed by fire ca 1972, was located on old route #31, formerly U.S. route #1, the old Boydton-Petersburg Plank Road), Mecklenburg County. A plat on record for "Lots at Skelton in Mecklenburg Co., Va." was drawn by William G. Brown on December 12, 1921. The store was situated on one-acre lot #2, noted on the plat as six miles from South Hill. The last owner and storekeeper was Clarence Meredith Evans, Sr., agent for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad at Skelton Station; Evans bought the store shortly after his marriage to Saluda Ann Rebecca Bugg in Wise NC.

See plat of Skelton.
