- Josiah Davison, orphan of Ananias Davison, chose Jacob Parrot as gdn. to an indenture given by Thomas MIley, now deceased.
- Jacob Inabnet is appointed guardian to John and Jacob Inabnet, orphans of John Inabnet, dec.
- George Cooper is summoned to court to show why his children should not be bound out and having shown sufficient cause to the contrary it is ordered that the summons be dismissed. - Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 to bind John Benson, son of Elisha to Benja. Williams. [no age or trade given]
- Ann McNantan, orphan of Peter is to be bound by Overseer of Poor to George Walls. She is 11 yrs old last fall.

Feb. 23

- Abraham Burner, orphan of Jacob chose Michael Burner as guardian
- Michael Burner is appointed guardian to Isaac Burner and Barbara Burner orphans of Jacob Burner dec.
- Overseer of Poor to bind John Kesterson orphan of William to George Bird.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 to bind Rebeckah Hammon, orphan of Paul Hammon to Matthias Smootz Jr. She being 12 years old 11 of last month. He agrees to give her one old bedstead and blanket of value of 6 pds. one cow of value of 3 pds and allow her two days in every harvest.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #2 to bind Susanna Hoke to Frederick McInturff. She is 13 years old Mar. 3, next.

Apr. 26
- Overseer of Poor Dist #2 to bind Margaret Job, a child of Pate Job to Samuel Levesque. She is 9 yrs old Mar. 8, last.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 to bind Andrew Yankey, orphan of Andrew to Andrew Zirkle. He is 16 yrs old Aug. 29, next.
- Overseer of Poor Dist #1 to bind Henry Murdock, orphan of James to David Golliday to learn the trade of weaver. He is 15 yrs old Aug. 12 last.

Apr. 27
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 to bind John Hamman, orphan of Paul Hamman to Francis Rees to learn the trade of a taylor. He is 14 years old Jan. 25, last. Said Rees is to give said apprentice one good taylor's goose and a pair of shears.

June 28
- Thomas Dodson is summoned to appear to show why his children should not be bound out and that Adam Seibert deliver Ruth, one of the children to John Gaw.
- Ordered that the Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 bind Jacob Stockslager, orphan of Alexander Stockslager to Peter Hoffman to learn the trade of a hatter. He is 15 yrs old May 7, 1792.

July 26
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 ordered to bind Margaret Dodson to James Allen. She is 9 yrs old last May.
- Same bind Ruth Dodson to John Gaw, she is upward of 14 yrs. [See June 1792]
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 ordered to bind Elizabeth Lear, age 12 Aug. 1 to Henry Pence.
- Overseer of the Poor is directed to find a suitable place for Henry Hammersley, son of John and to bind him out in next court.

Sept. 27
- Ordered that the Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 bind Jacob Hotsinpiller to Jacob Huddell to learn the trade of a weaver. He is 18 yrs old May 1 last.

Oct.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 ordered to bind William Reese to John Balthis. He is 16 yrs old Nov. 26 next.

Dec. 27
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 to bind Thomas Cunningham, orphan of Thomas to Peter Hoshour to learn the trade of tanner. He is 5 yrs old Jan. 15, next.
- Overseer of Poor to bind Vivian Ashley, age 9 to Joseph Skinner.
- Same to bind William Jones, age 16 to Joseph Skinner.

Dec. 28
- Ordered that the Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 bind John Hensen, orphan of Nancy Nensen to David Golliday to learn the trade of a stone mason. He is 8 yrs old Aug. last.
- Same bind Jacob Byers to David Golliday to learn the trade of stone mason. He is 16 yrs old Oct. last.
- Ordered that Jacob Bruner be summoned to the next court to show why John Hoop and Martin Miller should not be taken and bound out according to law.




1793

Feb. 12

- Petition of Susannah Lesher by Daniel Hart her next friend for alimony against John Lesher presented. Said John Lesher is to pay Susannah 14 pds. per annum.

Feb. 15
- On complaint of Jacob Rinker, overseer of the poor is ordered to summon John Snapp to show why he ill treats Catherine Armstrong who was bound to him. Said Catherine is to stay at the house of Esther Rees until the said complaint be tried.

Mar. 12
- James Miller, son of James, chose George Miller as guardian.
- Isaac Miller son of James chose Joseph Miller as guardian.
- Overseer of Poor vs. John Snapp. The said John Snapp agreed to give up Catherine Armstrong and the Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 is to bind her to Esther Rees, she is 12 years old June next. [See Feb. 1793]
- Ordered that the Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 bind Samuel Witsell, orphan of Anthony Witsell to Daniel Brannaman to learn the trade of weaver. He is 11 yrs old Oct. 19 last.

Mar. 13
- Henry Artz is appointed guardian to Elizabeth Artz, orphan of Jacob in place of Anna Gyger, late Anna Artz.

Apr. 9
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 to bind John Bratten to Jeremiah Eberly to learn the trade of tailor. He is 10 yrs old Nov. 14 last.

Apr. 10
- Abraham Neasly, orphan of Henry, chose Isaac Strickler as guardian.
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 is to bind George Rhinehart, orphan of George to Martin Miller, agreeable to former guardian Michael Berget.

May 14
- Commonwealth vs. Keller for begetting a bastard child of Margaret Rinker is dismissed.
- Commonwealth vs. Evans for begetting a bastard child of Mary Dodson is dismissed, said Mary not appearing.
- Commonwealth vs. William Jennings, Jr. for begetting a bastard child of Esther Tibbs. Said Jennings is to reimburse for support of the child.

Sept. 11
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 to bind John Gillock, orphan of John to James H. Davison to learn the trade of cabinet maker and house joiner and he is to give John Gillock one suit of clothes. He is 14 yrs old May 1, last.

Oct. 8
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 to bind Nancy Williams to Samuel Jenkins She was formerly boudn to John Wilson. [See Sept. 1787]
- John Burner is appointed guardian to Edwin Young, orphan of Edwin, dec. and to Fances Young, of same, both under 14.

Dec. 10
- Isaac Bowman is appointed guardian to Philip Bowman, Catherine Gatewood, Abraham and Susanna Wright Bowman, his children.




1794

Jan. 15

- Peter Hoop is indebted to the Commonwealth for 25 pds. for keeping a bastard child. [Mother not mentioned but see Jan. 1801.]
- George Collins is summoned to show why his son John should not be taken from him and bound out according to law.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #2 to bind Jesse George a child of mary George to John Thomas to learn the trade of shoemaker. He is 8 yrs old Nov. 8 next.
- Phebe Smith is ordered to appear and show why her child, Hannah, shall not be bound out according to law.
- Overseer of the PoorDist. #1 to bind Mary Method, orphan, to David Goliday. She is about 13 years old.

Feb. 11
- Joshua Foltz made oath that Adolph Coffman and John Coffman are the children and heirs of John Coffman, dec.

Feb. 12
- Thomas Ryan is charged for the support of a bastard child of Phebe Smith. George Woolf agreed to take the child and so the Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 is to bind Hannah, daughter of Phebe Smith to George Woolf. She is about 2 yrs old. Ryan is to pay the Overseer of the Poor for support.

Mar. 12
- Overseer of tehe Poor Dist. #1 to bind John Anderson to John Crousden to learn the trade of a miller. [no age given]

Apr. 8
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #2 is to bind Thomas Oneil to George Oakley to learn the business of a farmer. He is 15 yrs old June 28 next.
- Same to bind Jesse George, child of Mary to John Thomas. He is 9 yrs old Nov. 8, next. [See Jan. 1794 for same order]
- Same bind John Aishite, orphan of Jacob to Abraham Hershberger to learn the trade of blacksmith. [no age given]
- Same bind Catherine Ailshite, orphan of Jacob to David Ruffner. She is 7 years old thereabouts.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 to bind Henry Brown to Jacob Shaver to learn the trade of blacksmith, agreeable to Richard Patton, former guardian.

May 14
- Mary Hite, Catherine Hite and Sarah Hite are the only daughters and heirs of John Hite dec. and the said Catherine intermarried with Theodorick Lee and Sarah with Alexander Buckhanon - such to be certified.
- Thaddeus Ramey is summoned to show why his chidlren should not be bound out according to law.

June 10
- Eve Coontz is to be summoned to show why her children shall not be taken and bound out according to law.
- Charles Helvah chose Jacob David as his guardian.

July 8
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 is ordered to bind Benjamin Clevinger to Jacob Yost to learn the trade of a joiner. He is 17 yrs. Sept. next.

Sept. 9
- Overseer of the Poor vs. Samuel Hoshour for begetting a bastard child of Mary Keller. Sd. Hoshour is to pay Overseer of Poor for support.
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 to bind David Koontz, child of Eve, to George Lantz to learn the trade of a weaver. 7 yrs. old Dec. 2, next.
- Same to bind John Koontz, child of Eve, to John Taylor to learn the trade of shoemaker. He is 4 yrs old 27 this month.

Oct. 14
- The Court exempts Abraham Fry, orphan of Joseph, from payment of County levies in the future on account of insanity.
- John Huntsberger chose George Rinker as guardian and George Rinker is appointed guardian to Henry, Susannah, Catherine, Sarah and Abraham Huntsberger, orphans of Jacob, dec.
- George Coontz vs. Overseer of Poor Narbourne (sic) Parish in Berkeley Co. for begetting a bastard child of Elizabeth Puls and sd. Coontz is ordered to reimburse Parish of Narbourne -- etc.

Dec. 9
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #2 to bind Mary Breedwell, daughter of Deliah Breedwell to Jacob Coleman. She is 3 yrs old last day of Nov. last.
- Same bind John Fox, son of Mary Fox, to Isaac Allen to learn the trade of shoemaker. He is 8 yrs old Oct. 10, next.
- Alexander Scadden is ordered to show why his children shall not be bound out according to law.

- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 to bind Mary Harkins a base born child of Hetty Harkins to John Vance. She being 18 mo. old Oct. 15 last.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 to bind Richard Proctor, apprentice to John Stover to George Woolford to learn the trade of joiner. Agreeable to said Stover. He is 19 yrs. old 23d Mar. next.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #2 to bind William Callers, a child of Susannah Callers to William Bailey to learn trade of ______. [no age given]
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 to bind Catherine Smith an orphan child to Christian Bergner. She is four years old 1st Apr. next.
- John Gillock, orphan of John chose James H. Davison as guardian.

Feb. 10
- Commonwealth vs. J. Knisely for begetting a bastard childof Mary Roadenheiser. Said Knisely to pay Overseer of Poor 25 pds.

- Abraham Alger is summoned to show why his children shall not be bound out according to law.

- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 to bind Mary Aucherman, daughter of Eliza. Aucherman dec. to Philip Pitman. She is 13 yrs old Apr. next.
- Same bind Peggy Aucherman, daughter of Eliza Aucherman, dec. to Jacob Roads. She is 5 years old.
- Overseer of Poor bind Magdalene Muscatee, daughter of Anthony Muscatee, dec. to Christopher Tosh (Dosh) and to ascertain her age.
- Overseer of Poor for Dist. #1 bind Joshua Keiser, a base born child of Catherine Keiser to Philip Kibler to learn the trade of saddler, agreeable to John Burner to whom he was formerly indentured.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 to bind Peggy Cathreys, daughter of Eleanor Cathrey to matthias Sommers. She is five years old 12 this month.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 bind Mulatto Peter to Henry Bowers to learn the trade of a farmer and to ascertain his age.
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 bind Betsey Fartig, a base born child of Betsy Fartig to Charles Fryman. She is six yrs old May 1, next.

- Joseph Wolfenberger came into court and made oath that John Gillock is the only son and legal representative of John Gillock dec. late a private of the 2nd. Virginia Regiment.

Apr. 15
- Ordered that the Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 bind Susanna Strickler, a child of Peggy Halterman to Abraham Good. She is 4 yrs old Feb. 14 next.
- John Roads is appointed guardian to Abraham Moily, Barbara Moily, David Moily and Mary Moily (Miley?), children and heirs of Tobias Moily, dec. under 14.

June 9
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 to bind John Summers, a poor boy, age 11 on Oct.14, last to John Hebner to learn the trade of a weaver.
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 to bind John Ackerman, an orphan child about 14 years old to Philip Sink to learn the trade of a shoemaker.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #2 to bind Wiliam Arterburn, a base born child of Sarah Arterburn to Joseph Miller to learn the trade of a blacksmith. He is about six years old.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 to bind Thomas Boyer to Abraham Iago to learn the trade of a saddle maker. [no age given]

July 14
- Ordered that Joseph Miller be summoned to Court to show why the order to bind William Arterburn should not be set aside and it is ordered that the child be delivered up to William Arterburn his uncle until further order of the court. [See June 1794]
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #2 to bind John Tibbs, a base born child of Esther Tibbs to William Arterburn Sr. to learn the trade of a shoemaker. He is 3 yrs. old May 29, next. [See May, 1793]
- Catherine Ailshite was boudn by the Court to David Ruffner and since her mother has intermarried with John Coffman and has arrested her from the said Ruffner it is now agreed by sd. Ruffner that she remain with her mother. [See Apr 1794]

Sept. 8
- Patience Job is ordered to appear and show why her children shall not be taken and bound out according to law.
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 to bind George Scadden, eldest son of Alex. Scadden to Sameul Jenkins. He is 5 yrs old Oct. 13, next and the same to bind Jane Scadden and Alexander Scadden to Josiah Jenkins, they are two years old Mar. 23 next.
- Samuel Campbell, a devisee of Ales. Campbell dec. chose Richd. Bodkin as gdn.
- Jacob Houser, legatee of Henry Houser chose Magdalene Houser as guardian.
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #2 to bind John Williams a base born child of Hannah Williams to Isaac Hershberger to learn the trade of shoemaker. He is five years old July 5, last.
- David Mavius, orphan of George, made choice of John Mavius as guardian.

Oct. 14
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #2 to bind William Arterburn to James Miller to learn the trade of a stone mason. He is 8 yrs old Mar. 13 next. [See July 1795]

Nov. 12
- Christopher Kester is summoned to Court to show why his children shall not be taken from him and bound out and John Grove is to keep said children until further order of the court.

Dec. 9
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #1 to bind John George, a son of Hannah George to Zadock Conner to learn the trade of a shoemaker. He is 9 yrs old Feb. 14, next.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 to bind George Scadeen, son of Alexander, formerly bound to Samuel Jenkins, now deceased, to Josiah Jenkins to learn the trade of a weaver. He is 6 yrs old Oct. 13, next. [See Sept. 1795]




1796

Jan. 12

- Jacob Roush and Philip Roush came into court and made oath that John Filsmyer is the only son and heir of Adam Filsmyer, dec.

Mar. 9
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #2 to bind Hannah Cook, daughter of Nelly to Adam Kibler, agreeable to a former indenture Mary Mauck (now deceased).
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #2 to bind George Tiller to John Coffman to learn the trade of weaver. He is 11 yrs old next Oct. and same to bind Paul Tiller to John Strickler to learn the trade of weaver, he being 9 yrs old next June. [A consent note from their mother, Mary, widow of Thomas Tiller is filed with the papers of this court.]

Apr. 12
- Charles Moore, orphan of Reuben chose John Hup as guardian.

Apr. 13
- Peter Pence is appointed guardian to Lydia Zirkle orphan of John under 14.
- Overseer of the Poor Dist. #2 to bind John Fox, a base born child of Mary Fox to Henry Broomback to learn the trade of blacksmith. He is 9 years old Oct. 28, last. [See Dec. 1794]
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #2 to bind Polly Price, orphan of Zachariah Price to Abraham Pence. She is 9 yrs. old July 1, next.
- Overseer of Poor Dist. #1 to bind Rebeckah Bushong, orphan of John to George Fravel. She is 11 years old May 1 next.
- John Bushong, orphan of John chose William Bushong as his guardian.
- George Fravel and William Bushong are appointed guardians of Augustine Bushong, Rebekah Bushong, Jacob Bushong and Betsey Bushong, orphans of John, under 14 years of age.

May 11
- Overseer of the Poor for Dist. #1 to bind Abraham Rife, orphan of Christian Rife to Philip Miller to learn the trade of blacksmith. He is 17 years old Jan. 1 next.
- Conrad Huddle and George Huddle, orphans of David Huddle chose Jacob Huddle (of North Mt.) as their guardian.

July 12
- Commonwealth vs Philip Stover for begetting a bastard child of Betsey Miller and is to pay the Overseer of the Poor 15 pds to keep the child off the parish.
