Benjamin Cullers was the first burial in this cemetery. His grandson brought a Hemlock tree from over the mountain and planted it on the grave of his grandfather. The family didn't think the tree would survive so they allowed him to go ahead with his mission. To everyone's surprise the tree survived. It's still standing today atop Benjamin's grave, although part of it fell in the spring of 2011 causing damage to the fence.
