My line of the Thrifts will begin with Charles I, as much has been written about his ancestors beginning with Nathaniel Thrift who died ca 1736 in VA.
Charles Thrift I born about 1720 in VA, married about 1740 to Rebekah Hamilton.
His will was dated 20 October 1788 and probated 15 February 1790
in Fairfax Co., VA.
He had the following children:

His will was entered 1821 in Knox Co., OH
His grave was marked by the DAR in 1935 Old Fredrick Cem. between
Upper Fredricktown Rd., and the B & O R.R., He was a Baptist
minister.
He was 16 years old when he enlisted in the RW and served in Capt
Russell's Co. He was born in 1760 Loudoun Co., VA parents Charles
and Rebecca Hamilton Thrift. He married Hannah Moffitt 16 June
1791
Clerks Office Leesburg: George Downs m. Rebekah Thrift 22 August
1798, George Downs and David Moffett S.P. William Thrift her father,
gives written consent.

This family went to Georgia after the death of Peter.
6. Elizabeth THRIFT, daughter of Charles Thrift I, was born about 1759 in Fairfax Co., VA and died ? She probably married Henry Jenkins. I have no further information on this family.
7. Ann THRIFT, daughter of Charles Thrift I, was born about
1762 in Fairfax Co., VA and died ? She married Robert Scott in
Montgomery Co., MD 6 March 1778
I have no further information on this family.
8. Ally THRIFT, daughter of Charles Thrift I, was born about 1764 in Fairfax Co., VA and died ? She married William Mockbee Offutt in Montgomery Co., MD 26 November. This line can be traced through the Offutts, but I do not have that information at this time. They probably went to Kentucky with Charles II and his family.
9. Rebecca THRIFT, daughter of Charles Thrift I, was born 24 December 1767 in Fairfax Co., VA and died 9 October 1822 in Loudoun Co., VA. She married Gustavus Elgin on 27 January 1785 in VA. This line can be followed through the Elgin family at the Elgin Home Page.

I have records copied from a Bible owned by Charles THRIFT
III which was in possession of Elisa Simpson of Arkansas in the
1930's when Grace Thrift McKenney was doing research. I do not
know where this Bible is today.

Nov. 1785 in Fairfax Co., VA. He died 3 Sept. 1872 Washington
Co., IL. ( There is some dispute on his death date. His son left
a diary that lists his death as the one above.) He married Sarah
Fleming Cowan 21 April 1811 in Rowan Co., NC. ( Now I know why
he was in NC, all those uncles and cousins had moved there!!)
Samuel returned to his family in KY with his new wife and subsequently
continued the occupation of farming. He and Sarah had the following
children:
1. Sarah Elizabeth THRIFT born 20 April 1812 Christian Co., KY
died 17 Aug. 1851 in St. Clair Co., IL. She married James Hill
on 3 Jan. 1833 in St. Clair Co., IL. They had 10 children.
2. Andrew Jackson THRIFT born 12 October 1815 Christian Co., KY
died 12 April 1888 in Macon Co., IL. He married first to Minerva
Jane Hawkins on 8 January 1835 in St. Clair Co., IL. He married
second to Anna Christine Peter on 4 Sept 1851.

Andrew Jackson THRIFT born 1815 died 1888 continued. He moved
to St. Clair Co., IL with his parents about 1832 where they continued
farming. Andrew is listed in the 1840, 1850, 1860 census of St.
Clair Co., IL. In 1863 he and his son-in-law, George Bright Short
moved their families to Macon Co., IL, again, to farm. He is then
listed in the 1870 and 1880 census of Macon Co., IL. By his first
wife, Minerva Jane Hawkins (6 September 1819-10 January 1851)
he had the following children:
1. Sarah Elizabath THRIFT born 29 October 1835 died 30 September
1877. She married George Bright Short on 30 September 1856 in
St. Clair Co., IL. I will continue this line later.

and died 13 October 1949 Marion Co., IL. She married William G.
Welden 20 December 1882 Macon Co. IL. They had 6 children.
12. Grace Truman THRIFT born 5 February 1866 Macon Co., IL and
died 3 May 1947
New York, NY. She married Samuel D. McKinney ca 1890. They had

Sarah Elizabeth THRIFT born 1835 died 1877 and married George
Bright Short 30 September 1856 in St. Clair Co., IL. I have a
considerable amount of information on the Short family. George
and Sarah moved to Macon Co., IL in 1863 where they purchased
Rail Road property along with her father Andrew Jackson THRIFT.
George Short was born 12 August 1826 in St. Clair Co., IL and
died 3 March 1916. Of course they farmed the land they bought
raising 3 children to maturity. Their issue:
1. Isolina born 12 July 1857 St. Clair Co., IL died 1 July 1891
2. James Monroe 1858-1865
3. Leni Leoti 1862-1864
4. Henrietta born 8 April 1866 Macon Co., IL died 1928 Macon Co.,
IL. She married
Jacob Monroe Reynolds 20 December 1886. They had 2 children:
1. Virginia Beth Reynolds 14 October 1889-26 March 1976, she married
George
Benton Jones in 1910 and had 5 children. 2 are still living.
2. George Ralph Reynolds 30 April 1891-30 June 1972. He married
Minnie Malone
23 December 1912. They had one son, William George.
5. Goldella born 29 July 1873 died 29 March 1950. She married
Charles Stein. They had

1. Ruth Etta who married Harold Glosser. She was born 1896 and
died about 1990.
2. Sara Elizabeth married Eric Heinz. She was born 1897 and died
about 1955.
