GORDON -
I'm working on a book of the angling history of the Umpqua River in Oregon. I have reason to
believe that a Samuel Gordon was the subject of an account that may be the earliest
recorded account of fly fishing in Oregon. This subject is of great interest to us and has ended
in a mystery. Captain Gordon was a very prominent and wealthy citizen here for 5 years,
then he simple evaporates from our local records. I'm hoping to find someone who is working back
in time to him as I have some very interesting information about him that is not available on the
internet. Samuel Gordon was born in Campbell County, Virginia on 9 Dec.1820 to Rev. John
and Agnes Gordon. If anyone has any info about him or possible descendents, I would love
to know about it. I have for them a 4 page chronology of his 5 years on the Umpqua River in
Oregon.
