BURWELL, HARVEY, PENCE, PERSINGER,
SNYDER -
We are trying to establish the Persinger connection in my wife's ancestry. We have good
data back to David Persinger m. Magdalene Harvey as well as the Harvey/
Burwell/ Diggs lines. I have copies of the wedding notice of David and Magdalene as well
as records of the sale of land by John Persinger and his wife Margaret to William
Persinger (his son it says) in 1832 then a sale of
adjoining land to David Persinger in 1835 and finally the sale of David's land to Charles
S. Kirkwood in 1836. David and Magdalene then moved to Ohio to take up land that Magdalene
inherited from Nathanial Burwell through her father Lewis Harvey. The LDS data
shows John Persinger married to a Margaret Snyder and both William and David as
their sons. I have a copy of a chart of "The Persingers of Alleghany County, VA" made
from the notes of RR and LL Humphries that shows the descendants of Jacob Persinger. The
diagram of the children of his son Christopher Persinger and Barbara Pence lists
eleven children one of whom is John Persinger with the remark that he "Moved to
Roanoke, VA". The time line is right for that to be the John that I am
interested in, but I have been unable to find anything that would show that to be true -- and
there are a lot of "Johns" in the Persinger families. The book "History of
The City of Roanoke" has a paragraph describing John Persinger's acquisition of
property around the turn of the century, it mentions that Wiliam was the son of John, and has a
brief discussion about
Jacob, Christian and Phillip Persinger coming down from Pennsylvania. But there isn't
anything that identifies John as Christopher's son John or any one else's John for that matter.
Any help that you can provide would be appreciated.

LEE, LUDWELL, PETTY, REED, TAYLOR -
Seek information on the family of Travis PETTY (a War of 1812 veteran) and other families
mentioned here. He married Mary LEE (a cousin of Gen. Robert E. LEE) and they
moved to Gurnsey Co. Ohio about 1820. They had one son (that I know of) named Ludwell
PETTY b. 1808 who married Mary REED of Loudoun Co. Ludwell was a Methodist
minister who had at least 2 sons. His son Asbury PETTY (b. 9-18-1831 also a minister) was
married twice. His 2nd wife Sarah Eliza TAYLOR was also from Virginia and said to be
decended from a U.S. president. Asbury and Sarah's son James Taylor PETTY was the 2nd
husband of my great grandmother. I assume that Ludwell is also a family name as I know that
Ludwells and Lees have married.

BURK, CHANDLER, SHARP, TALKINGTON, TATE -
I am looking for information on James N. Sharp and Shadrick Sharp of Hempstead
&/or Howard county Arkansas and Louisa Co. VA. Or for any Sharps in Louisa Co. VA. My
great-great-grandfather was James N. Sharp b. Dec 1810 in VA. He moved from VA near
Richmond (Louisa Co. most likely) to Hempstead Co. AR around 1835. He was married and widowed
before 1850 as he is listed on the 1850 Hempstead Co AR census with the following children: (Ages
and names for children of this marriage taken from 1850 census records for Hempstead County,
Arkansas) Sheddrick Born: About 1839, Arkansas; Mary Born: About 1842, Arkansas; Elizabeth Born:
About 1844, Arkansas; and Robert J. Sharp Born: 25 December 1847, Arkansas. His first wife
may or may not have been Mary Talkington. A James Sharp
married a Mary Talkington in Hempstead Co in 1834. He may have married in VA before moving
to AR. James N. apparently had a brother named William Alpheus (James had a grandson named James
Alphus). William Alpheus was born abt 1808 in Louisa Co. VA. According to that family Wm. A's
father was Henry, an Irish immigrant. Also according to WA's family Wm settled in Sevier Co in
1835. Sevier Co lies adjacent to Hempstead Co. I believe that William Alpheus was James N's
brother but believe that his father's was probably not an Irish immigrant, but Henry may have
been part of his Christian name. James N. remarried in 1852 to Lucinda Chandler and they
had the following children: Sarah; Permely "Mealie" Born: 1853, Died: 1931, Buried:
1931, Saline Cemetery, Howard County, Arkansas, Married: Thomas Franklin Burk,
(1859-1925); John William Born: 1868; and James Henry Sharp Born: 9 January 1869, Arkansas
or Virginia, Died: 6 February 1942, Howard County, Arkansas Buried: Bissell Chapel Cemetery
Married: Martha Jane Tate, (1871-1948). James N. is nowhere to be found on the 1860 census
for Hempstead or Pike Co. AR. He and Shadrick are found listed on the 1860 Virginia Census Index.
With James N. residing at Thompsons Crossroads and Shadrick at Fredericks Hall P. O. in Louisa
Co. VA. Family history state that James N. did return to VA, he may even have married Lucinda
there (her family resided in Pike Co AR in 1860). Family history also states that their son James
Henry was born there. According to the 1860 VA census index, the following Sharps were
living in Louisa Co. VA in 1860: America A. -- Shannon Hill P. O.;
Elizabeth -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; Elizabeth F. -- Thompson's Crossroads; James N. -- Thompson's
Crossroads; M. D. -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; Martin -- Amblers Mill; & Jackson; Mary E --
Shannon Hill P. O.; Michael J. -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; Robert J. - -Fredericks Hall P. O.;
Sarah -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; Shadrick -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; Thomas -- Fredericks Hall P.
O.; William -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; William N. -- Jackson P. O.. Any information on the
Sharps of Louisa Co Va would be greatly appreciated. My local genealogy library does not
have the 1860 Louisa Co. VA census and the suspense is killing me.
