HANSBERRY, KNIGHTEN, ROGERS, TAYLOR, YOUNG -
Late 1700 - 1800 - the following "Negroes" are listed on the 1870 Census as living in East
Feliciana Parish, Ward 8, Louisiana and give their place of birth as Virginia: Rogers,
Amos b 1834; Taylor, Lucy b 1815; Judial b. unknown; Hansberry, William (Bill) b
1840; Taylor, Patience b 1840; Rogers, Viney b. 1790; Rogers, Lucy b. 1820.
These are the ancestors of my maternal grandfather Dawson J W Knighten. Any
information (owner, plantation, place of origin, former names) would assist in my search. It is
known that "Joe Young" a Louisiana resident came to Virginia to buy Bill Hansberry
(around age 18 when sold) another male slave and three female slaves but it is not known when or
who the other slaves were.
Thank You

CONNELLY, FORD -
My gr-grandfather, John F. Ford, then about 7 years of age, emigrated from Co. Roscommon,
Ireland ca. 1848, with his mother and older brother (given names unknown), to the
Richmond/Petersburg area of Virginia. Both John and his brother served in the CSA, John in the
short lived 24th. Bn. Virginia cav., Partisan Rangers which was disbanded in January of 1863. He
married in January 1866, in Baltimore, MD. His mother and brother reportedly died during the
war. He married Mary Connelly and moved to Baltimore ca. 1869. The federal Censuses
indicate their four children were all born in Baltimore. Any information greatly appreciated.

great great grandfather. Their names were Sparrel Turner and James R. Turner and

FANNIN, FERGUSON, WORKMAN -
Did Rebecca Fannin, b. 1850 in Wayne County (now WV) end up in Virginia? After 30 years
searching, I still haven't found out what happened to my great grandmother. We were told that she
"remarried and moved away" among other things. People who told us that said they couldn't
remember to whom she remarried and where they moved. This would be vital information to tracing
her final years. This is why I'm posting this message on as many "unknown county" queries as I
can find.
I searched for her before there were computers and the Internet. My grandfather
searched (1915-1920) and couldn't find her. Here is the basic factual information that I have for
her.
Basic facts on my great grandmother: Born: Rebecca Fannin, about 1850, (Va./WV),
d/o Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin. Married: 8 August 1868, Wayne, West Virginia,
Reece Carl Workman. Their son, my grandfather, Benjamin Freeland Workman, b. Wayne
County, WV 2 April 1870. My grandfather was taken from Rebecca by Reece before 1874, never to see
each other again. Reece married his cousin, Margaret Workman, in Mercer County, WV 2
February 1874. Rebecca was granted divorce from Reece and custody of their child in Wayne, WV in
March 1877.
This (1877) is the last known (to me) record of Rebecca (Fannin)
Workman. Family stories say Rebecca remarried and moved away, but they can’t remember to
whom and where.
After my grandfather married, Reece, Margaret, and the other children moved
to Wright County, Minnesota about 1895. Reece and sons established farms around Maple Lake and
Annandale. After Margaret died, he returned and married again living near Crumpler, McDowell,
West Virginia. He died in a car wreck in McDowell County (WV) in 1928. I am hoping to locate a
descendant of her second marriage.
