COOPER, MORRIS -
My cousins and I are caught-up in Finding the roots of our cooper Line from which we evolved in
lee County,va. In the Lee county census of 1850, Elizabeth COOPER listed at age 40 as head
of the household with children. George was 20. Mary was 17. Catherine was 15. Martha was 12. By
the 1860 census, George has married. Elizabeth, we believe, has died. The daughters are living
with benevolent friends and MORRIS relatives. In subsequent marriages, all list VA as
place of birth. All list Elizabeth as their mother. Neither sibling lists a father. We speculate
the family had been abandoned by the father and that Elizabeth had come to Lee county for
assistance from her MORRIS kin who had come from Montgomery county in NC. There must have
been a previous history of the family but we can't find it. No previous listing in VA or NC. No
marriage for Elizabeth. We have traced our MORRIS family through the lordly manors and
respect highly the generations of COOPERS who found success in Lee county and in many
other locales. As you see, our problem is, where were we before 1850? Who was our grgr
grandfather? COOPERS are in the main fabulous people and we will appreciate very much all
help you and others can give.
