I'm looking for information on Coleman-Herbert family (both born in Ireland) but who gave birth to Mary R. in Virginia. Specifically, I'm looking for Mary R. Coleman (b 1852 in Virginia d. 1912 in Springfield, Missouri) and information about her first husband last name Lonorgan (sp?).
According to her death certificate, her mother's maiden name was Herbert. Mary is my great, great grandmother. According to the 1880 Census, I believe she first married a Lonorgan when she was 18 or younger as her first daughter, Josie Lonorgan, was 11 (and born in NY) in 1880. According to that Census, she was 29 when she is shown as married to Nathan A. Winters (20 years her senior). Mary had another daughter, Emma Lonorgan, who was 7 and born in Missouri.
My great-grandfather, Dave Crooks Winters, was born in 1875 in Missouri and was 5 at the time of the 1880 Census. Dave is listed as a son of Mary and Nathan while the girls were listed as Nathan's step-daughters.
Dave Crooks Winters married Clara Cooter and had a son Arthur R. Winters (Senior) in 1900 but the story goes abandoned them when he was young. My father is Arthur R. Winters, Jr. and he said his dad wouldn't discuss his father. Interestingly, a Dr. Herbert signed Mary's death certificate in Springfield, MO. He may be related.
"On the 19th of January, 1879, Capt. Winters was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Lonorgan, of Trenton [Missouri]". I wonder if Lonorgan was killed in Missouri during the war. I have no idea how/why Mary found herself in Missouri.

I've been searching the records at VAGenWeb and Ancestry.com but have hit a brick wall with a distant relative who was, "the former a native of the Old Dominion, where he was reared in true Virginia manner" according to a biography written about his son, EPHRAIM T. KIBBLE www.usgennet.org/usa/ne/topic/resources/OLLibrary/hwnep/voliii/hwnp337.htm
I have no parents, no country information, for JAMES BKIBBLE b. 4 Jun 1828 in VA (or WV?). Census records for that time period list only head of household by name so that's of limited use.
Are there online church records or other Virginia resources you can recommend that I search?

I am researching my Freed/Friedt family. I know my gg grandmother is Hannah Jane Freed 1845 Virginia, 1933 San Luis Obispo, CA. Her father is Paul Freed 1825 Virginia, 1910. From there I am not sure. John Freed 1779 Pennsylvania, 1861 Virginia and Paul Freed 1756-1841 is a close guess. There are many brothers, so I do not know in which direction to go.
I am 72 years of age, a beginner and frustrated at not knowing how to do this. Please help me put the names together. This family came from Germany around the 1700's. Thank you,

In reference to a posting from September 21, 2003 we now have learned through yDNA testing that we match three men with the last name of "Land" and thus far have not matched a male "Sterling". We are now searching for some kind of connection that a Land male has with a Sterling female, or any kind of relationship with these two family names. Please refer to the data on the previous posting for additional dates and places. Any information would be most welcome.

I am looking for information on a John Anderson Coleman. He was born in Virginia around 1813. His first wife was Martha Elam. Her father was Samuel Elam. It has been a long process. Seems he and Martha were married a short while and had 3 children. One of their two daughters was my great great grandmother Martha Ann Coleman. They also had a son Samuel and another daughter Drucilla. Martha Elam Coleman died within a month of giving birth to Drucilla. Sometime shortly after this, he married Susan Pettus. I do not know if he went to Virginia and married Susan or if he married her in Tennessee. I assume that Martha died in Tennessee. The first census I find with just his name on it was the 1840 Tennessee census when he was already married to Susan. You can see that my research progressed slowly. I have had to prove that Martha Jane Elam was John Anderson Coleman's first wife and the mother of his first 3 children. I have very little information on Susan other than she was the mother of at least 2 if not 3 more of his children. He was married 6 times at my last count. He never own any land in Tennessee or his final state of Arkansas.

I've found it as a surname-could it be Elizabeth's mother's maiden name? or John's mother's? Lodosky and ElizinaLodosky are given family names for three generations. I wonder what the history of that name is for Elizabeth's family.

I am have ran into a road block in my search for a Jacob Carroll. What I do know is that he was born in Virginia in 1797 and moved to Kentucky at some point after that. The earliest I have any information on him is that he was in the 1820 census in Scott County, KY. I have a full (almost full) lineage from Jacob Carroll to present but cannot find anything of his heritage.
Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide. (either with information or a direction). He doesn't show up on any web searches I have done in KY or VA prior to 1820.
